The door handle comes from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Brandenburg e.V., founded in the summer of 1991 by scientists, politicians, artists and cultural workers and citizens from Brandenburg interested in left-wing educational work, who did not accept the failure of the socialist social order without questioning it, wanted to analyse the causes and create a space for discussions about socio-political alternatives in the sense of a democratic and socio-ecological transformation of society. Today, too, we see ourselves as a discussion forum for critical thinking and political alternatives.
In lectures, seminars, conferences and workshops, we offer, among other things, critical analyses of contemporary capitalism; support and theoretical foundations for leftist politics and programmes; an examination of neo-Nazism and structures/ideologies of inequality and the development of counter-strategies; international politics and German and European foreign and security policy; German and European contemporary history and art and culture and their political dimension, using Brandenburg cultural projects as examples.
Since 1 November 2000, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Brandenburg e.V. has had its headquarters in the centre of Potsdam, in Max Dortu, the revolutionary who came from Potsdam and was shot dead in Freiburg i.Br. during the March Revolution of 1848.
The door handle comes from the entrance to our event room, which, like the entire baroque type house of Karl Stützel from 1734, is a listed building and in which we have held 478 events to date (as of July 2020). In addition, we are present with educational offerings at many other locations in Potsdam, but also in about 25 smaller and larger towns throughout the state of Brandenburg - on average with about 130 events and about 5,000 participants per year.
