The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation NRW, founded in 1996 as an association, is active in the most populous and westernmost federal state of Germany.
Topics are on its doorstep, such as structural change, (post-)migration, climate policy, right-wing terror, poverty, mobility and social issues. A lively left-wing scene and a large number of civil society actors* are committed to the right to the city and a good life in the countryside, to good education and health care for all, to feminism, to social alternatives, to culture from below as well as against racism and right-wing violence. There is also much to discover about the history of the workers' movement - politics of history is an important topic of educational work in NRW. The board of directors, the state office and volunteers in local clubs realise a varied educational programme with an impressive range of cooperation partners and again and again with departments and colleagues of the RLS in Berlin.
Educational vacations by bike, large conferences, exhibitions, political music festivals, long-standing reading circles and many smaller evening events are part of it. In 2019, the FeministFuturesFestival took place at Zeche Zollverein in Essen with 1,700 participants - probably the largest event of the RLS to date. Dedicated debates and conferences with nationwide coverage, such as Cross-Solidarity I and II, on climate policy, the I. World War I and Marx200 will be remembered.
In 2011, the RLS NRW received state funding for the first time and the office moved into premises in Hedwigstraße in Duisburg. That is also where the door handle originated. Since then, there has been sufficient space for employees*, meetings and always a warm welcome for guests.
